Utilizing powerful yet intuitive interface, TwinBridge Japanese Partner enables the Japanese language to be processed under the standard English Windows environment, as well as the Japanese localized Windows. The system allows Japanese Kanji, Kana, Greek, Russian and others to be entered into Windows applications. All of the character entries can be done through a variety of the most popular Japanese input methods provided by the system, without the use of a separate localized Windows. You can now write Japanese letters using your everyday Windows word processor, add Japanese columns to your spread-sheet, prepare Japanese flyers for your upcoming events using your desktop publishing program, store Japanese addresses in your Windows database program…
TwinBridge Japanese Partner also offers a group of unique and powerful utilities: Code Converter, Font Editor, Meta Utility, Single Byte Manager, Dictionary Manager, Character map and etc., to fulfill your specific needs.
New CDROM version contains 4 Japanese fonts. Japanese Partner Pro 4.0 (CDROM) (MSRP: $299 - US & CANADA)
With all the power of Japanese Partner, the pro version comes with additional 11 high quality TrueType Fonts.
Test report - Heinz-Uwe Semke, in: Japan-Magazin (1996.9), pp. 16-17:
Twinbridge Japanese Partner 4.0 - A bridge between worlds
The question of how" to depict and print Japanese characters on
Westeuropean IBM-compatible PC’s gets a definite answer with the new version
4.0 of the
among experts already well known program Twinbridge Japanese Partner from
the American Twinbridge Software Corporation. More than any other program
Twinbridge really is a bridge" between the worlds of western and Asian
characters. Different from already discussed text-processing programs of
diverse kinds with their own environment and the resulting advantages and
disadvantages, Twinbridge Japanese Partner is a front-end-processor, similar
to the Japanese Language Kit known from Macintosh systems, that fits perfectly
into the environment of Westeuropean systems. Therefore it is possible
to process Japanese characters (with Twinbridge) without problems in to
users already familiar text-processors or spreadsheet programs. The required
minimal configuration is a 80386 CPU with a VGA- or SVGA graphics card,
a mouse, Windows 3.1 or 95 as system interface or operating system., 4
MB main memory and 12 MB of free hard disk memory. The program is available
as standard- or Pro-version on CD-ROM. It works with Windows 3.11, Windows
95,Novell NetWare ans is compatible with many application programs like
e.g. WinWord, Microsoft Excel and Aldus Pagemaker. The Pro-version contains
the program, five extremely useful utilities and eleven (!) different Japanese
True-Type fonts of remarkable quality. The program’s further performance
is quite extraordinary, too: More than 6000 implanted characters/symbols,
more than 50,000 meanings in the Japanese dictionary and the possibility
of English-Japanese word translations. Wit Windows 95 the Japanese True-Type-fonts
can be increased up to 1638 pixels without loosing quality. By means of
an enclosed patch the program can depict ISO-2022-JP code and thereby depict
Japanese Internet pages.A detailed and clear manual and the possibility
of using a telephone-hotline are included on purchase. The German distributor
, who delivers the program all over Europe, is the Multilingua publishing
house, Universitaetsstr. 142, 44799 Bochum, Germany. The manufacturer also
offers support via Internet. The address of the homepage is: http://www.twinbridge.comEasy
to installBy using the setup-program on CD the installation of the program
is as easy as it gets. The program with it’s utilities and the True-Type-fonts
have to be installed in two separate steps. According to the extent of
the program the user wants installed on his computer it covers from 12
up to 79 MB hard disk memory. The following configuration-dialogue enables
you to choose e.g. whether Twinbridge Japanese Partner starts automatically
with Windows or whether you want to start it manually. Furthermore the
internal codes must be defined. The JIS (EUC) codes should be chosen to
avoid problems because of the codes for the German symbols. The front-endprocessor
- the centrepieceThe program has to be started parallel to or before the
text-processor. After starting the application a further small window in
the accustomed environment attracts attention: The control-centre. Varying
adjustments regarding the quality of depiction and font-characteristics
can be made here. The German user should do without the setting Mapping
all English fonts to Japanese" to avoid an overlap with German symbols.
However, there do not occur any problems with German symbols by using the
above mentioned settings. The Japanese True-Type-fonts can be chosen after
starting the program in the font menu of the respective text-processor.
The input of Japanese characters is comfortable and works according to
the typical scheme for Japanese front-endprocessors. The user can choose
between eight differently defined methods of input: Roma-Kanji, Kana-Kanji,
English-Japanese, Simple Stroke, JIS-Code, Shift-JIS-Code, Unicode and
Full-size Char. It is possible, too, to define your own methods of input.
Particular punctuation symbols as well as Greek and Cyrillic characters
and symbos can be selected and integrated with diverse tables that are
put at your disposal as buttons in the prompt line. The formatting of Japanese
characters, whether they shall be depicted/printed as justification, centred,
bold, italicized, underlinde of in whatever format, is possible without
problems by using the normal functions of the respective text-processor,
even in combination with German text-passages of any format. Moreover,
Twinbridge offers special formats like Shadow, Outline, Invers and Coreless.
It is possible as well to arrange the text vertically. You can even create
special-fonts of already existing True-Type-fonts with one of the special-formats
mentioned above. Therefore there remains no limit to your design ideas
by combining the mentioned format- options as you like. The utilitiesOne
further excellent supplement are five also delivered utilities. The Super-MetaUtility,
for instance, offers the option to print out Japanese characters as high-quality
graphics file. These files can be accessed and further processed on systems
where Twinbridge isn’t installed. Especially the font-editor and the dictionary-manager
turned out well: The font-editor can edit each Japanese character and even
create new symbols, e.g. by using components from already existing characters.
The dictionary-manager can assign particular characters to new or different
kinds of reading. These are available after re-starting the program. Even
phrase-converters can be edited. The Single-Byte-Converter converts an entered
Japanese text (which can consist of up to 180 symbols) into a Single-Byte-True-Type-font
that can be used in graphics applications like Wordart or Corel Draw. Many
special effects can be added to the text, as for example extrusion"
or low-print". Varying possibilities of designing the text are within
reach at this place. The character map for ascertaining the affiliated
character-codes and the code-converter for converting the codes of your
documents into JIS/Shift-JIS/Unicode-format also positively conclude and
already good impression. All utilities are well described in the delivered
manual.ConclusionsThe program, tested in different system-environments
(Windows 3.11/Windows 95) and with different applications (Winword 6/7,
Excel 5/7, Corel Draw 4.0) worded perfectly. No problems (especially regarding
special characters like umlauts) occurred. Without a doubt Twinbridge Japanese
Partner is at the moment the best possible solution for Japanese texts
and their processing on Westeuropean Windows-systems. The integration into
an system/application-environment the user is already familiar with and
the complex possible ways of processing and designing are convincing reasons
for a positive evaluation of the program. Twinbridge Japanese Partner is
a professional tool that leaves it’s customer with almost no wishes left.
Therefore the program can be recommended without restraint to any user
with Japanese-text-processing ambitions of any kind.
